Well, I thought by now I would have a lot to share with you. But it seems this whole pandemic thingie that we are all navigating has slowed production and delivery of many of the supplies that we need to continue our renovation of "Van Go."
And so, here we are... waiting on cabinet doors, it seems. Apparently the workshop that has our order has been closed on a number of occasions recently due to COVID-19 scares.
Thus, the cabinets that were due to arrive in late July got put off to late August... then, to late September...and now...
Late October.
I have some small updates that I can share, but nothing earthshattering. It seems that COVID has slowed the delivery of all kinds of products. For this reason, we have a number of half-completed areas in the RV.
Probably the most exciting item to share at this point is the progress that we have made with the RV bath area. As you can see from the lead photo, the bath is nearly complete now. A very good friend of ours--Stewart-- owns a countertop business, and so we selected the material for our RV counters from pieces that he had left-over from larger projects.
You will note that our upholstery wasn't complete when he measured for our counters. We had a number of repairs and additions to make before we could ask him to install the counters. For instance, we installed a tankless water heater... or rather, a friend of ours and Tim installed it. I simply act as the cheer squad for those kinds of projects.
Of course, give me a paintbrush and I'm happy... I promise you that I am looking for more places to add paint to Van Go. Hmm...
In the meantime, since there is very little counter space in our RV, we could afford to "splurge" a little. You see, weight is the ever nagging factor with any aspect of RV renovation. However, our counter space is almost negligible.
Tim gave me the go-ahead to choose a little heavier product if I agreed to remove another item from the vehicle that was comparable in weight.
Obviously, I took him at his word.
And so our reno goes...every decision in a tiny space matters. However, despite the many goings back and forth to Stewart's warehouse, I finally settled on this beautiful quartz. I know... very
weighty. But I initially mistook it for Corian. That's an embarrassing tale that's best left alone. Ha!
Needless to say, I'm thrilled with our choice. Didn't Stewart do a beautiful job with the ogee
edging?
As you can see, prior to the installation of the counter, Tim redid the bath ceiling and added the faux beams. He glued the faux beams first (see the braces?) and then reinforced the beams with a few screws.
In addition, we opted to install a simple peel and stick backsplash tile in order to keep the vehicle weight down and to compensate for my impractical counter choice.
I do understand that some RV renovators have had difficulties with various peel and stick products. I chose as carefully as I could and for this reason, we used a York wallcovering product that received good reviews. But, of course, time will tell. I'll let you know how the backsplash holds.
Of course, there is always "Gorilla Glue" or even trusty duct tape if the tiles' stick loses its stickiness.
The vessel sink, interestingly enough, was originally purchased with one of my pet home reno projects in mind. However, time and schedules postponed that project and ultimately, I decided to make things easy on everyone. I chose a counter and sink pairing, and the vessel sink was placed on a shelf in my storage room.
Who knew this beauty would one day find its home in an RV?
I chose the beveled circular mirror because, of course, it has a lot of style. But I found that most of the framed circular mirrors were quite heavy. For this reason, although I love the frames, I felt it better to do without that additional weight.
We found the towel rods and faucet at our local box DIY home store, and we purchased the incandescent vanity, light fixture from etrailer.com.
"So what must still be renovated in the bath?" you might be wondering... Quite honestly, the space is small and thus, there are really only a few items left. I have yet to add the cabinet hardware because well, we had ordered new cabinet doors. Uh, huh...One word of explanation is all that is necessary: COVID-19.
I've also ordered a wallpaper sample to spruce up the area behind the toilet. But that hasn't arrived yet either. However, I can show you a picture of it.
I love its French flair and the way it incorporates the blues and greens. If it is as beautiful as it is in its picture, this Seabrook wallpaper will be a "go" for Van Go. Never mind that the wallpaper requires pasting. I'll deal with that.
In fact, I've worked with this same wallpaper shop in the past, and have been extremely happy with both the quality of their products as well as their service. Soo, if you are interested, I think I may safely say that you will find the service at Mahone's Wallpaper to be impeccable! The staff is extremely helpful and attentive.
That's all I have to share today. Currently, Van Go has gone to the repair shop. After watching multiple YouTube videos, Tim and our friend Shane decided to leave the installation of the solar panels to the experts.
But more of that for another post! Have a fabulous week everyone! If we encounter no further pandemic hiccups, I'll be back soon with more to share.
