I Need My Beauty Sleep, Part Deux

Sir Bentley Rembrandt Sleeps...

Now that I've determined my overall color palette--blue and white with splashes of cool green--it's time to think about the supporting cast: flooring, hardware, and lighting.

Since most of the existing metal framing around the RV windows is black, I can probably get away with including a little charcoal or black in the overall design when it comes to hardware, etc.

And then, I do think we will want to put down new flooring. The current carpet in the bedroom and living areas is, after all, 26-years old.

It's definitely a dust mite disaster!

So far, I'm leaning toward a wood or laminate floating floor in the mid-tones and in a warm color. Hickory or English pine is beautiful, and either fits in well with my preferred European country style.

My husband thinks it might also be nice to create a headboard behind the bed with shiplap.

But as you can see, that window behind the bed provides the required fire escape for the back half of the vehicle.

I have considered creating a large painted, canvas-covered board... something removable that perhaps, would showcase one of my favorite inspirational passages or even a poem. The same

look could also be created by covering a board with script wallpaper. Yet, both might prove a tad unwieldy to remove in an emergency.

For this reason, I think, perhaps, that I might simply create an illusion of a headboard with custom window coverings and European pillow shams. I do know my way around a sewing machine, and so that makes this idea a strong possibility.

New hardware--the jewelry of home decor--for the space will certainly go a long way toward transforming it. Purchasing new hardware is pretty straightforward. I probably will find something I like at our local hardware store.

Lighting, on the other hand, presents a trickier problem. Unless we plan to hook up to electricity in paid campsites every night, we will want to be self-sufficient off grid. That means that either we convert lights to 12-volt, or purchase lighting that is already 12 volt compatible.

Having done a little preliminary research courtesy on the internet, I have discovered that the range of lighting in 12-volt is limited since it is a specialized market.

However, I think that with a little ingenuity that I can adapt, repaint and accessorize anything that

we purchase as long as it has a generally pleasant design shape. I did find one light fixture created by Lucent Light Shop that I'm absolutely crazy about... I may need to splurge a little on this one.

As for the rest of the lighting fixtures, I can always make use of Rust-oleum paint, a hot glue gun and if necessary, the ever trusty duct tape. Ha! Just kiddin' about the duct tape.

Finally, I want to maximize the under the bed storage available. The bed platform actually lifts and allows storage beneath the mattress. I think this will be extraordinarily handy for storing my paint canvases and other bulky, yet delicate, items.

Well, that's more than enough reno dreaming for today. I'll be back soon with more to share as we take our first baby steps toward renovating and redecorating our RV's bedroom.
