Tackling Ideas for the Redesign of the RV Master Bedroom...
"But, of course, don't all women of a certain age need a good night's rest?" I hear you ask.
Yes, 'tis true. And I certainly qualify as a "woman of a certain age."
And no, I won't be revealing that shocking tid-bit on this blog. Ha!
However, what I can tell you is that my creative work flows so much better after a good night's rest.
For this reason, prior to our decision to take the reno plunge, the RV as home base for my plein air adventures particularly appealed not only for its convenience but also for the sake of my health.
You see, I have some food intolerance as well as allergies caused by house dust and chemicals. Thus, I find my health suffers to some degree when we stay in hotels and vacation rentals. Nevertheless, that's doable when we are simply kicking back.
However, if I need to work when I don't feel my best, travel can become problematic.
BEFORE...
And so, the RV bedroom remodel ranks high on my list of priorities for this project. After all, all the upholstered items and fabric in a 26-year-old RV obviously breed dust mites.
A quick cleaning and refresh will not do. Then, there is also my latex allergy to be considered.
For this reason, I will choose fabrics that represent natural fibers. And, whenever possible, I will prefer to select hypoallergenic or organic materials.
Of course, this will mean that our project's budget may run a little higher than some other RV remodel projects that you may have seen online, but it will be worth to us in the long run.
After all, what good will the RV be to us if I cannot get a decent night's rest or remain healthy? Perhaps, you have similar issues. If so, you totally get it.
Enuf of that. Let's have another look at the space before we remodel it.
And MORE BEFORE...
As you can see, by many housing standards, this is a tight space.
But since I grew up camping in tents and a faded, old Volkswagen bus, the size appears to me like a luxury suite at the Ritz-Carlton. But the decor definitely disappoints. Truly a 1990s dinosaur.
So, how to freshen up the space?
Well, the quickest way to make the most dramatic change to a room is to paint. I'd like whatever I do on the inside of the RV to be fresh, clean and bright. I'd also like it to fit with the exterior colors of the RV, and for it to appeal to my wonderful guy/biggest fan who is making all of this possible.
Since Tim's favorite color is blue, and since I love
European home decor, I'd like to base my overall
design on a crisp yet warm white and navy blue. Finally, I'll add a splash of cool green. I think this color scheme will make us both happy and will work well with the RV's exterior colors. As far as availability of fabrics, I am confident that I can purchase those through either of two of my favorite online decor retailers, Kovi Fabrics and Ballard Designs.
Well,I think that's enough for today. Let's save our dreaming about the "jewelry" of our bedroom decor--lighting and hardware choices-- for another day. For now, I'm off to research more fabric and linens that fit with my overall palette.
