As I Wait...

Quite honestly, I really hoped that I would be able to complete the majority of the bedroom portion of our RV reno over the course of this past week.

However, plans have a way of changing. Since the RV currently sits on the lot of our extraordinary mechanic, I haven't been able to work on the interior space this week.

Indeed. While purchasing a 26-year-old fixer-upper saves a lot of money, it certainly does not save time. You see, many of the parts for the vehicle are no longer manufactured.

Just sayin'

It comes with the territory... and it should be considered before purchasing a fixer upper.

Lesson learned.

Fortunately, my extroverted husband has never met a stranger. And in addition, he has lots of very talented friends.

For instance, our mechanic friend is currently reconstructing our RV's AC/Heating system. This, of course, means adapting parts that are on the market to work with our older RV's system.

But as with any renovation or remodel, everything takes longer than you anticipate. This turns out to be particularly true in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yup. We obviously love challenges.

Nevertheless, I can share with you some of the bits and pieces that I will pull together and stage when "Van Go" finally comes home.

As you can see, I've obviously settled on the bedroom's color scheme. The duvet cover is actually a simple white with scalloped edging. I chose the white since it is bleach-able, and I expect that I will be extremely thankful for the ability to thoroughly clean the duvet of campsite dust once we actually take our RV on the road.

At the base of the bed, I plan to place the indigo and white, toile coverlet that you see pictured here.

Progress on our window coverings has stalled slightly due to the fact that I will be using the same fabric for both the dining room banquette cushions and the bedroom blinds. Since our upholsterer currently has the bolt of fabric, I haven't been able to cut the fabric and thus, begin sewing the blinds.

I'm definitely thinking that a trip to see our upholsterer may be part of my game plan for this coming week. However, I can still give you a glimpse of the fabric that I am using for the blinds here. I'm excited about using the jazzy green and white trellis fabric (seen on the cover of the throw pillow in the left photo). I think it add a fresh modern aesthetic to our classic design scheme.

As for lighting fixtures, we have simplified matters by purchasing lighting that is designed for RVs. Although some DIY-ers choose to adapt household lighting for their projects, we decided that we already have a lot on our plates with this remodel.

For this reason, we opted to purchase 12-volt lighting fixtures designed for RV usage. I did splurge on the two reading lights from Lucent Light Shop.

I love the way the black shades pick up the black outline of the indigo toile fabric. And, of course, the brushed brass arms of the light fixtures add a touch of classic French charm.

I purchased the bedroom's overhead light from a vendor on Amazon. The specifications, $17.99 price tag, and voltage aligned beautifully with our renovation needs.

However, when the fixture arrived, I thought it a bit plain. No worries, though. Imperfection often inspires creativity.

This light proved itself no exception. I bought some navy blue grosgrain ribbon and attached it to the shade of the light with a hot glue gun. I may yet spray the metal mount of the light with a Rustoleum brass paint. Time for a trip to our local home improvement store.

In an ideal world, I suppose I could have found a much more glamorous and "move-in ready" option. But I am happy with the sleek lines of the shade, and feel that the budget friendly trim lends it an overall custom feel.

Finally, I've thought a lot about the hardware for the room's cabinetry. Since the cabinets fill the primary wall space, I didn't want to overlook the hardware when renovating the space.

After many happy hours of "window shopping," I finally settled on some beautiful pulls and knobs that sport a wrought iron finish and etched leaf pattern that works extremely well with the navy and white toile coverlet.

Finally, I plan to sew curtains in addition to the blinds for the room. Unfortunately, the fabric that I have selected for the draperies is currently on back-order. So again, I wait.

I wonder what project I should tackle in the meantime?

Pay no attention to groans of the man behind the power drill. I won't ask him to take on any more work at the moment.

It has occurred to me that the sliding door to the RV bedroom might provide a wonderful canvas for my creativity...

Perhaps, I can paint the door in the style of an antique French screen/room divider. That'd be an incredibly challenge for artist like myself.

Hmm... Guess I should give that some serious thought. And yes, I'll let you know what I decide.
